Donard Glen V Enniskerry

For the second time in the same number of weeks, Enniskerry ladies faced Donard Glen. After losing by 8 points the previous week, the Enniskerry ladies and their supporters were hoping for an improvement on that margin.

After an exciting first half the Enniskerry Ladies trailed by 4 points, this didn’t deter the girls however.

It was an exciting match that saw both sides hit the crossbar, a disallowed goal and many wide balls. The last 10 minutes saw a huge fightback from the Enniskerry girls, and the roars from the supporters spurred the ladies on.

Ailish Kelly netted 2 goals and 3 points, Christine Murphy scored a hat trick in goals and points and a point from Grace O’Neill brought the Enniskerry tally to 5-7. It was not enough however as Donard netted one point extra, finishing with a score of 3-14.

A huge improvement from the Enniskerry ladies, well done and keep up the good work.

LADIES UNLUCKY IN ARKLOW

Enniskerry ladies stepped up their pre season training with a good showing in Arklow on saturday evening. The girls posted a score of 3-7, a good score by any standards. Enniskery defence stood strong for the whole game with Jessie Bursey standing out as a outstanding addition to this girls team. Ailish Kelly another new addition was not far behind Bursey for the outstanding player on the field and her drive from midfield se up a constant flow of attacks for the forwards Christine Murphy and Grace O'Neill. It was Murphy and O'Neill who did most of the scoring but the most pleasing thing was their willingness to fight for every ball that came up near them.

Carol Kavanagh,Rosy Kavanagh,Nicola Byrne and Emer Ryan all had strong games and seem to be improving every week. This was a good performance from the girls but there is still a lot of work to be done if they want to be a constant force in the championship

Avondale V Enniskerry 28-03-2010

Enniskerry ladies pre season games continued in Avondale on sunday evening.

The ladies from the village were up against it from the start with this Avondale team proving to be very fit and well organised. Avondale came flying out of the blocks early on and the ladies had keeper Heather Blackbyrne to thank for keeping the score down with a string of wonder saves.

As the game progressed the girls tried their best to stick with the hard running and short hand passing game of the Avondale girls but maybe this was a game to soon for the fitness of the ladies from Enniskerry.

There was a lot of positives to be taken from this pre season game, Blackbyrne put in a great performance in goal yet again and Carol Kavanagh is settling into the midfield nicely with her hard work and determination very evident on sunday. Player-Manager Christine Murphy put in a hard slog and delivered good ball into the forward line at every opportunity.Nicola Byrne covered every blade off grass in the second half and her improvment is clear see with every game.

Susan Blackbyrne and Grace O'Neill are forming a nice partnership in the forward line and as soon as they are released with more ball scores will follow quickly.

Enniskerry v Kilcoole 21-03-2010

Enniskerry Ladies had another good run out on Sunday afternoon. Kilcoole had expected to come to Kilgaron for an easy game but they got no such thing.

The ladies had a bad start and were a little rattled early on by the physical side to the Kilcoole game. They fell to two goals and a point behind, but as the first half went on the girls grew into the game more and more with Naomi Kiernan asserting herself in the heart of the defence.

Grace O'Neill started to get a grip of the game and caused the Kilcoole defence alot of problems. It was her run and shot that got the ladies up and running with their first point. The girls were coming to terms with the pace and physical side of the game and they were rewarded when a long Susan Blackbyrne effort flew into the top corner.

The second half proved to be a very useful run out for the girls. They had the better of the half and had some good stand out performances from Goalkeeper Heather Blackbyrne who is becoming a rock in the goals for Enniskerry. As the games progress, her accurate kick outs should prove vital. Naomi Kiernan and Emer Ryan were giving the Kilcoole forwards very little change and with Christine Murphy and Carol Kavanagh starting to get their hands on a lot of ball around the middle of the field, it released a lot more ball to their dangerous forwards O'Neill and Blackbyrne. Nicola Byrne was also becoming very prominent by picking up alot of breaking ball.

As well as the stand out performers, no team can operate without the efforts of every player and every player put in a great effort. Catherine Murphy, Leanne Swaine, Trish Kavanagh, Rosemary Kavanagh and Terese Maguire all should be proud of their efforts.

The Game finished 3-5 to 2-2 to Kilcoole but with very little game time under their belt these ladies might turn a few heads yet this year.
